Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you very much for your interests on EWBS and its operation.

Answer 1: The EWBS has been in stable operation for analog broadcasting system since 1985. As shown in reference 6 and 7, the current operation of EWBS includes analog radio (AM and FM) with digital television (ISDB-T) services. During the course of digital TV standardization, requirements of EWBS have been reflected in the technical specification both in satellite and terrestrial digital television broadcasting systems, which are capable of fully operational as in the analog system. The TMCC(Transmission Multiplexing Configuration Control) signal, which exists in parallel with MPEG-2 Transport Streams, carries the signaling message for digital TV receiver to activate in an appropriate manner. Accordingly, we would like to revise the plaque citation.

Answer 2: As shown in the attached file "Chronological record EWBS NHK.pdf", the number of events for EWBS operation is 22 in total. For protection of life and property among broadcast audiences, the EWBS worked successfully in all events and never experienced an error nor a failure in services. During the migration process of television system for digitalization in Japan, the numbers and kinds of NHK's media for EWBS have changed frequently as indicated in Table 1 and 2. By the end of fiscal year 2001, there have been 11 events based on the analog system itself. Today, EWBS operation includes systems for digital television and analog radio (AM and FM).

Thank you very much for your kind attention.
